MRS. ANDREW SCHUTZ

Barbara Ellen Hatter was born on Feb. 9, 1939 in Highland county, Ohio. She with her parents, moved to Washington county, Iowa, in 1844 and one year later to Keokuk county, where she resided until coming to Madison county in 1865. On Oct. 20, 1866, she was united in marriage to Andrew Schutz, on the farm where she continually resided until the time of her death. To this union were born eight children, seven sons and one daughter, four sons and the daughter surviving her; two sons passed away in infancy and one son at the age of ten years.

She was baptised in infancy, was a quiet, unassuming woman, a devoted wife and mother. She passed away Monday morning at 1 o'clock Nov. 23d, 1914, being 75 years, 10 months and 22 days old. She leaves to mourn their loss, four sons and one daughter: F. A.. Schutz, C.C. Schutz, A.C. Schutz and Mrs. E. C. Eivins of Macksburg; C. E. Schutz of Lincoln, Nebr., a brother Henry W. Hatter of Deep River, Iowa; a sister, Mary J. Snyder of Rantoul, Ill, three brothers and five sisters having preceded her, besides a number of near relatives.

The funeral was held from the home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by Rev. Spooner of Lorimor, assisted by Rev. Whitney of Macksburg. Text: 15th chapter of the 116th Psalm. Interment in the Kivet cemetery.

Barbara Ellen Hatter was born in Highland County, Ohio, February 9, 1839. She with her parents moved to Washington County, Iowa, in 1844 and one year later to Keokuk County, Iowa, where she resided until coming to Madison County in 1865. The trip from Keokuk County to Madison was made partly by rail and partly by stage. This trip was full of many incidents.

On October 20, 1866 she was united in married to Andrew Schultz in the log cabin on the farm, where she continually resided until the time of her death. To this union were born eight children, five of whom survive her, four sons and one daughter, two sons having preceded her in infancy and one at the age of 10 years. She leaves to mourn her loss, four sons and one daughter F. A. Schultz, C. C. Schultz, A. C. Schultz and Mrs. E. C. Eivins of this place and C. E. Schultz of Lincoln, Nebraska. Also one brother, Henry W. Hatter of Deep River, Poweshiek County, Iowa, and one sister, Mary J. Snyder, of Rantoul, Illinois. Five sisters, three brothers and her husband having preceded her. She also leaves 11 grandchildren and other near relatives and friends.

She was baptized in infancy, was a devoted, wife and mother, a quiet, unassuming woman believing strongly in influence of the home and church. She passed away at 1:30 o'clock on Monday morning, November 23, 1914.

Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 o'clock on Wednesday, November 25th conducted by Rev. Roy N. Spooner of Lorimer, Iowa assisted by Rev. Whitney of Macksburg. The text was the Fifteenth verse of Psalm 116. Interment was in the Kivett cemetery.
