MARY ANNA HILL

Mary Anna Pyle was born in England, Aug. 10, 1850, and died at her home in Winterset, Nov. 19, 1914, aged 64 years, 3 months and 9 days.

She came to America when 9 months old in a sailing vessel that was wrecked, so she was three months on the sea. She lived on Long Island until she was 7 years old and then moved to Knowlsville, Orleans county, New York. She was married to Henry Hill in Albion, N.Y., May 23, 1868. They moved to Union county, Iowa in 1878, and to Madison county about 27 years ago, and to Winterset in 1910. She was stricken with paralysis in September, 1908 and has been a helpless invalid ever since, and most tenderly and faithfully cared for by her devoted husband.

She was the mother of nine children, Anna Louise died in early childhood. She is survived by her husband, eight children, ten grand children an aged father, two sisters and three brothers. Four children were present: Mrs. Lillie Farmer of Farmington, Ill., Mrs. Ida Gilpin, New York City, and Mrs. Marie Rollstin and Geo. Hill of Winterset. Those absent are: Mrs. Edith Kinnaird, Leland, Iowa; Wm. Hill of Clive, Canada; Edmund of Casper, Wyo., and Joseph of Hidalgo, Texas.

Mrs. Hill was converted and joined the church when 14 years old, and was faithful to the end. When the services were held in the chautauqua pavilion, she was most happy to attend them, where she was wheeled in her chair. After the long years of patient suffering, death to her was a release for which she was ready.

Funeral services were held at the home at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. W. G. Hohanshelt, and burial was in the Rock City cemetery.
