Asa B. Smith, one of the older residents of Madison township, died Monday at his home near Worthington church, at the age of seventy-nine. Funeral services were held today nd burial t the Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Union township.

Asa Burl Smith was born in 1835 near Browntown, Brown county, Indiana. In 1848 he with his father came to Madison county, Iowa and settled on a claim west of Winterset, adjoining the town.
There he grew to manhood and in 1864 married Mary M. Pender. To this union eleven children were born, nine of whom with his wife survive him. Mrs. H. M. Miller, of Stuart, Iowa, J.N.G. Smith of Odette, Oklahoma, Mrs. Elmer Banks, Mrs. Charles Weaver, E.S., W.A. And Roy Smith who still reside in Madison county and W.T. And S. E. Smith.
Early in life he united with the old school predestinarian Baptist church and continued in this faith until his death which occurred at his home northwest of Winterset, October 12, 1914. He was 79 years, 5 months and 5 days old.
His friends were numbered by his acquaintances for his upright, kind, forgiving disposition made a friend of all those with whom he came in contact.
