LESLEY YOUNKER, WAUKEE

Lesley Harold Younker, 80, of Waukee died Aug. 20, 2010, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to noon today (Wednesday, Aug. 25) at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. A luncheon was held immediately following the visitation at the V.F.W. Hall in Winterset. Military graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg. Memorial contributions may be directed to V.F.W. Lesley Younker was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Indianola to Harold Clinton and Fern Viola (Halsted) Younker. When he was young, his family moved to Winterset where he attended school to the seventh grade. During that year, his family moved to Macksburg, where he graduated from high school in 1948. Lesley served in the United States Army as a medic corporal during the Korean War. He received several commendations — including the Korean Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and a Meritorious Unit Citation. Following the war, Lesley returned to Iowa where he married Viola Mae Hartman on Oct. 7, 1954. Together they made their home in several communities — including Macksburg, Winterset, and Saylorville — before moving to Waukee in 1966. Lesley worked as a janitor at Firestone in Des Moines for 32 years, retiring in 1985. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 8142 of Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant daughter, Deborah; and siblings, Duane Younker and Alice Eaton.

He is survived by his children, Cindy Younker and Clint Younker, both of Waukee; three siblings, Viola Martin of Davenport, Melvin Younker of Knoxville, and Ruby Grimsted of Chicago, Ill.; and a grandson and two great-grandchildren.

LESLEY HAROLD YOUNKER, Waukee

Lesley Harold Younker, age 80, of Waukee, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Visitation with the family will be held 10 a.m. to 12 Noon, Wednesday, August 25, at Ochiltree Funeral Service and Aftercare. A luncheon will immediately follow visitation at the VFW Hall in Winterset with military graveside services being held at 2:30 p.m. at the Moon Cemetery in Macksburg.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the VFW Post 8142 or to the family will be appreciated. Online condolences may be directed to the family at ochiltree.com.

He is survived by his children Cindy Younker and Clint Younker both of Waukee; a grandson, Jason Younker (Amber) also of Waukee; two great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Viola Martin of Davenport, Melvin Younker of Knoxville, and Ruby Grimsted of Chicago, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Viola Mae in January 2005; an infant daughter, Deborah in 1955; and siblings, Duane Younker and Alice Eaton.
