JOHNNY PORTER, OSCEOLA

Johnny G. Porter, 85, of Osceola died Aug. 19, 2010, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 23, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Kevin Smith officiating. Burial followed at Peru Cemetery, with military rites performed by the Winterset American Legion and V.F.W. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a memorial to Kavanagh House.

Johnny Porter was born Jan. 4, 1925, in Peru to John Thomas and Silvia (Gifford) Porter. He was a graduate of Peru High School. Johnny was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the southern Philippines from May of 1943 to January of 1946. He was united in marriage to Marie Decker for 58 years. They lived in Peru, Des Moines, and Oklahoma before returning to Osceola. Johnny worked for Solar Air Craft and Rock Island Railroad in Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Hogue.

He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Osceola; one daughter, Judy Knipfel of Waukee; one son, Johnny James Porter of Waukee; and two grandchildren.

Johnny G. Porter, 85, of Osceola died Aug. 19, 2010 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Johnny G. Porter, son of Silvia (Gifford) and John Thomas Porter, was born Jan. 4, 1925 in Peru.

Johnny graduated from Peru High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the southern Philippines from May of 1943 to January of 1946.

In 1952, Johnny married Marie Decker. They lived in Peru, Des Moines, Oklahoma and returned to Osceola.

Johnny worked for Solar Air Craft and Rock Island Railroad in Des Moines.

Johnny is survived by his wife Marie Porter of Osceola; daughter Judy (husband Cleveland) Knipfel of Waukee; son Johnny James Porter of Waukee; grandchildren, Ann Marie Porter and Kristopher James Porter of Des Moines.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Raymond Knipfel; sister and brother-in-law Frances and Cleve Hogue.
