Obituary—Mrs. J. M. Davis

Arvilla, the daughter of Peter and Rachel Franklin, was born in DeKalb county, Illinois, March 12, 1851 and died May 23, 1911, at the age of 60 years, 2 months and 10 days. She was married to J. M. Davis June 6, 1870. To this union were born eleven children, William, Minnie, Charles, Orville, Elizabeth, Rozella, John, Josie, Mabel and Corby. Seven of these are living, four having preceeded her in death. She leaves two brothers and two sisters, Oliver, Fred, Ella and Mary, two son-in-laws, Lester Trester and Henry Reynolds, a daughter-in-law, formerly Miss Mary White and eight grandchildren to mourn her loss.

Mrs. Davis was a kind and loving mother and exceedingly proud of her large family. She was a conscientious Christian woman, a member of the Methodist church, having joined that organization early in life. Mrs. Davis was always cheerful, always hopeful, being one of the favored few who seem able to see the silver lining in the dark clouds of adversity.

She was stricken on the morning of the 23d and remained unconscious until the end, which came early in the afternoon. The circumstances attending her death seem especially sad as the children were in different parts of the country. The husband was temporarily absent in an endeavor to summon the children to her bedside. Mr. Davis and wife have resided in Jefferson township, this county for forty years.

Funeral services were held at the U. B. church on the afternoon of the 25th where she was laid to rest beside the children who went before her. Rev. Stiverson of Van Meter, pastor of the U. B. church, conducted the services. The sympathy of friends and neighbors attend the bereaved family.
