GEORGE GUIBERSON, Ends His Own Life

George Guiberson, a young man about thirty years of age, ended his own life last Thursday night by drinking carbolic acid. The unfortunate young man was a victim of the drink habit and had been dissipating for several days. Thursday evening, he went to a drug store and purchased the acid, having made the statement to the clerk who waited on him that he wanted the poison to kill bed bugs with. Threats that he had made against his own life had aroused the suspicions of some of his acquaintances. After leaving the drug store, they made inquiry, and as soon as learning that he had purchased the acid, followed him in an attempt to dissuade him from carrying out his threats and having him placed in safe keeping. Guiberson managed to elude his pursuers and ran south from the square to the residence of his aunt, Mrs. Shannon, which is two blocks from the square. Here his pursuers overtook him, but he swallowed the deadly liquid before they could get hold of him. A physician was on the scene in a very short time, but the drug had done its work quickly and he died within a few minutes.

Guiberson was about thirty years old. he was the youngest son of Sam Guiberson, who was an old and respected citizen of Winterset. He was married six or seven years ago but his wife secures a divorce in about a year. He was frequently in trouble and was once in the insane asylum, An older brother had committed suicide. He is survived by his mother, who lives in Winterset, and two sisters who live in Oskaloosa.
