SHIRLEY ALEXANDER Dead

S. D. Alexander, former publisher of The Madisonian, died in a Des Moines hospital Thursday night, after a day or two of illness. He was found by friends on the streets of Des Moines in a semi-conscious condition and sent to a hospital.

J. E. Hamilton went to Des Moines in response to a telephone message but in spite of the effort of physicians Alexander died soon after Mr. Hamilton left. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church Tuesday morning, being delayed until word was received from his brother, Erwin, who lives in Montana and who could not get here.

Alexander was the son of T. J. Alexander, an honored and respected citizen of Winterset. He learned the printing trade in Plymouth county and soon after coming to Winterset with his father he purchased a half interest in The Madisonian with Albert Strong. He married Miss Mayme Bevington a year or so afterward and personally came into the possession of an estate worth $75,000 or more, when he secured a divorce a few years ago. It is understood that most of his money had been lost in unfortunate speculation. Alexander was a man of unusual ability and had many fine traits but his convivial habits brought him to an untimely death.

He is survived by his aged father, his sister, Eleanor, two brothers, Dr. Alexander, of Kansas City, and Erwin Alexander, of Montana.
