Mary Edna Stannard was born January 17, 1838 at Morrisville, Madison county, N.Y. and died Feb. 16, 1911. When she was but two years old, her parents removed to Lamoille, Ill.
On Dec. 25, 1862, she was united in marriage to Wm. Bowman. In 1865 they settled in Madison county, Iowa. To this union were born six children, two of whom died during childhood. The four living children are Mrs. Mattie A. Ross of Lorimor, Iowa, Mrs. Hattie Moffatt of Okobojo, S.D., Mrs. Julia Jacobs, Mt. Ayr, Iowa, and Mrs. Ella M. Gawthope, Paola, Ind.
For over sixty years she has lived an earnest, devoted Christian life. Through years of suffering, she maintained that quiet faith in God which enabled her to endure the pain, and also approach death without a murmur. To her, death was a new revelation of her Savior and a reunion with a husband and two children who had gone on before.
Interment was made in the Rock City cemetery on Sunday, Feb. 19, 1911.
