James Clark Houlette was born in Maynard county, Illinois on June 22, 1848, and died February 9, 1911, at his home near Truro, Madison county, Iowa, aged 62 years, 7 months and 18 days. In 1867, he came with his parents to this county, where he lived the remainder of his life. He was married to Malinda E. Creger on the 22d of April, 1877. To this union one child was born, Mrs. Mary Agnes Scott.
He united with the M. E. church in 1881 and lived a consistent Christian life ever since and died a triumphant death. He became a Mason in 1900, and was a member of Ivy Lodge No. 486 at Truro. His mother survives him and resides with her son, William, near Hanley. His father died June 27, 1909, at the age of --.
One of a family of seven children, James is the first to depart, the rest are Margaret Slinker of Payette, Idaho, Robt. Houlette of Texas, William P. of St. Charles, and S. E. and Mrs. Susan Schanck of Des Moines. He was a kind father, a loving husband and a good neighbor, a steadfast Christian and was loved by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, daughter, mother, two sisters and three brothers, besides a host of other relatives.
