William H. Kirby, of Crawford township, an old and respected resident of this place, died on Monday, the 16th, after an illness of only three or four days, from pneumonia. Mrs. Kirby had been in failing health for several years, consequently was unable to stand against that dread disease when it came.
His funeral took place on Wednesday, January 18th, and interment was made in the Calvary cemetery near Churchville. Father Condon, of Churchville, preached the funeral sermon and the remains were followed to the grave by a long procession of mourning relatives and friends.
Mr. Kirby was somewhere near seventy years of age. In his youth he married Miss Annie Nolan, of Union township. To this union was born one son, James Kirby, jr., of this place, who, with his mother and several uncles and aunts remain to mourn the loss of the departed.
Your correspondent has known the departed for about 50 years. He was an honest man and a true and genial friend. May he rest in peace.
