ESTHER E. HANNON, WINTERSET

Esther E. Hannon, 97, of Winterset died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Rev. Dr. Beverlee Bell and Rev. Dr. John Shaull officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.

Esther was born on Nov. 27, 1912, in Madison County, Iowa, to Wesley and Maude (Finney) Eivins. She was married on Feb. 7, 1942, in Grant City, Mo., to Donald C. Hannon. She had been a lifetime resident of Madison County and had worked as an administrative secretary for the former Farm Security Administration and was a homemaker. Esther’s position with the Farm Security Administration was to travel the state helping secretaries get started in their new positions. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Madison County Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Farm Bureau, former Winterset Women’s Club, former Hawthorne Rebekah Lodge in Macksburg, and Crown Rebekah Lodge in Winterset.

Esther is survived by her son, Charles W. (Paula J.) Hannon of Winterset; grandchildren — Kelly (Michael) Ayers, Christopher (Jennifer) Hannon, Michael (Cari) Hannon, Matthew Hannon, and Nichole (Zachary) Carroll; and great-grandchildren — Carter Ayers, Townsend Ayers, Jack Hannon, Jessica Hannon, Tyler Hannon, Cole Hannon, Gavin Carroll, and Madelyn Carroll. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Maude (Finney) Eivins; husband, Don Hannon; brother, Ray Eivins; and two infant sisters.

Visitation was held Monday at the First United Methodist Church. Memorials given to the family will be directed to the First United Methodist Church, Madison County Historical Society, or Madison County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
