WYMAN WILSON, WINTERSET

Wyman R. Wilson, 68, of Winterset died Aug. 6, 2010, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. Burial was at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg, Madison County. Memorials may be directed to the Madison County Covered Bridge Preservation Association. Online condolences may be made to the family at ochiltree.com.

Wyman Wilson was born Feb. 7, 1942, to Paul and Reva (Helm) Wilson and was a 1960 graduate of Macksburg High School. His marriage to Nancy Adams took place Sept. 16, 1961. After working with Dr. Van Allen of the University of Iowa, Lockheed Electronics and NASA (where some of his stuff landed on the moon and orbited Mars), Wyman returned to Winterset, working in the mortgage, real estate and insurance industries. In 1994, he opened The Roseman Covered Bridge Shop; an expansion was completed in 1995. Wyman later helped organize and establish Covered Bridge Realty, of which he was co-owner. He was a member of the Oak Grove Church, Madison County Covered Bridge Preservation Association, and Des Moines Area Association of Realtors. He also served on the Madison County Airport Board and Madison County Chamber Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by one son, Mark Wilson of West Des Moines; one daughter, Lori Van Cleave of Columbus, Neb.; a brother, Wayne Wilson of Macksburg; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 10 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m., Monday, August 9 at the funeral home, where family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Madison County Covered Bridge Preservation Association.

Wyman is survived by his son, Mark Wilson (Heather) of West Des Moines, his daughter, Lori Van Cleave (Chad) of Columbus, NE; a brother, Wayne Wilson (Bev) of Macksburg; and five grandchildren, Isabelle, Eliza and Harrison Wilson and Emily and Adam Van Cleave.

Wyman R. Wilson was born on February 7, 1942 the son of Paul and Reva (Helm) Wilson. He graduated from Macksburg High School in 1960. His marriage to Nancy Adams took place on September 16, 1961 and to this union two children, Mark and Lori, were born.

After working with Dr. Van Allen of the University of Iowa, Lockheed Electronics and NASA (where some of his stuff landed on the moon and orbited Mars), Wyman returned to Winterset, working in the mortgage, real estate and insurance industries.

In 1994 Wyman opened The Roseman Covered Bridge Shop. At that time he noticed an increase in traffic to the bridge he had lived next to for 25 years. The shop was an instant success and an expansion was completed in 1995. Soon after the release of the movie, The Bridges of Madison County, Wyman began running the shop full time. His likeable personality and love of people made this venture a perfect career move for Wyman. Later he helped to organize and establish Covered Bridge Reality of which he was co-owner.

He was a member of the Oak Grove Church and Madison County Covered Bridge Preservation Association and served on the Madison County Airport Board, Madison County Chamber Board as well as being a member of the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors.

When not working, Wyman would unwind by either sailing or flying, both hobbies of his which he was passionate about.

Wyman died August 6, 2010 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He was 68.

Wyman is survived by his son, Mark Wilson (Heather) of West Des Moines, his daughter, Lori Van Cleave (Chad) of Columbus, NE; a brother, Wayne Wilson (Bev) of Macksburg; and five grandchildren, Isabelle, Eliza and Harrison Wilson and Emily and Adam Van Cleave.

Wyman was preceded in death by his parents.
