Obituary - S. S. Robertson

S. S. Robertson was born December 1, 1840, in Carroll county, Ohio, and died at his home near Winterset, on June 8, 1911. In 1853, he moved with his parents to Mahaska county, Iowa. In 1862, he enlisted in Company E of the 33d Iowa infantry, and faithfully served his country till the close of the war, after which he went to live in Kansas. In 1892, himself and family came to Madison county, where he continued to reside until called by death. Mrs. Robertson preceeded him in death five years ago.

He leaves three sons, one daughter, also two sisters and one brother. He was an active member in the Presbyterian church and was honored by his church with the election to the board of elders. His life was marked by uprightness of dealing with his fellow men. In his death his children are bereft of a kind, indulgent father, and the community loses a man who left the world better by his having lived in it.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 11th, Rev. J. S. Corkey conducting the services preaching from John 14:2 “I go to prepare a place for you”. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
