KAYE HOCHSTETLER, Winterset

Sharon Kaye Hochstetler, 68, of Winterset died July 8, 2010, at Winterset Care Center North.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 12, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Pastors Kevin and Sue Blader officiating. Burial was at McDonald-Chase Cemetery in Madison County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in Kaye’s name. Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset.

Kaye Hochstetler was born Sept. 5, 1941, in Council Bluffs to Wilbur and Gladys (Hirst) Callison. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1960 and later attended college at Cornell, the University of Iowa, and Drake University, graduating from Drake in 1965 with a degree in pharmacy. Kaye’s marriage to James Hochstetler took place June 20, 1965, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Kaye worked as a pharmacist in Ames, West Union, and Manchester until settling in Winterset where she worked at Jackson, Montross, and Pamida pharmacies, as well as other pharmacies in the area throughout her career. She was a member of the First Christian Church, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star. Kaye also volunteered as a 4-H leader and Bible and Sunday school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, of Winterset; her two children — James “Russell” Hochstetler of Winterset and Susan Aman of Iowa City; a brother, Ken Callison of Winterset; and three grandsons.
