BESSIE MAE SMITH

Bessie Mae Hoffrogge Smith was born the daughter of Mary and Jon Hoffrogge on May the 9th, 1923 in Jolly, Iowa. Bessie passed away at the Stuart Community Care Center on June 28, 2010 at the age of 87 years old.

Smitty and Bessie met in the winter of 1944, and were married on March 25, 1945. In 1948 Smitty and Bessie moved to Earlham, Iowa where they made there home. To this union were born three children: Frank, Donna and Gretchen. Bessie loved to visit with family and friends and her final last few years over at the Stuart Community Care Center where she loved to sing, play bingo and penny pitch. Bessie will always all her friends that came into her life journey.

Preceded her in death were her husband Forrest (Smitty), her parents Mary and John, her step-dad Frank Housh, one sister Elsie Blauth, two brothers Leo Hoffrogge, and Carl Schnebly.

Those left to cherish her memories are: son Frank Smith and wife Sandi of Earlham, IA; daughter Donna Watson and husband Charlie of Waukee, IA and daughter Gretchen Marsh and husband Gene of Earlham, IA, along with 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters Marie Dawson and Pauline Benton of Dallas Center, IA; Louise Erwin of Granger, IA and Edith Thompson of Perry, IA.

BESSIE MAE SMITH, Earlham

Bessie M. Smith, age 87, died at Community Care Center in Stuart on Monday June 28, 2010.

Memorial services will be Thursday July 1, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham, where the family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Earlham Cemetery.

Those left to cherish her memories are son Frank Smith and wife Sandi of Earlham; daughter Donna Watson and husband Charlie of Waukee; daughter Gretchen Marsh and husband Gene of Earlham; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters: Marie Dawson and Pauline Benton of Dallas Center; Louise Erwin of Granger and Edith Thompson of Perry.
