GENEVIEVE MELROY, Winterset

K. Genevieve Melroy, 88, of Winterset died July 7, 2010, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, July 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Chris Hartshorn celebrating. Burial was at McDonald-Chase Cemetery in Madison County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.

Genevieve Melroy was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Madison County to Joseph and Jennie (Hill) Bruns. Her marriage to John Melroy took place June 14, 1939, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Following their marriage, they resided in rural Adel until 1963, when they moved back to Madison County. Genevieve, a dedicated farmer’s wife, also was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, John E. Melroy; four brothers, Paul, Bobby, Joedy, and Jack Bruns; a sister, Betty Campbell; and two grandchildren, Mary Book and Roger Krueger Jr.

She is survived by three daughters — Patty Krueger of Dawson, Kathy Book of Minburn, and Marjorie Van Mourik of Napa, Calif.; three sisters, Mary Williams and Peggy Paige, both of California, and Dorothy Kennedy of Minnesota; and 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
