RUTH L. WAUGH, Winterset

Ruth (Frey) Waugh, age 100 years and 7 months, of Winterset, Iowa, died July 4, 2010, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with burial in the Lorimor Cemetery in Lorimor, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday from noon to 8 p.m. at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home, with her family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Ruth Lorraine Frey was born to Otto and Estella (McCauley) Frey in Lorimor, Iowa, on Nov. 9, 1909. Ruth was the seventh of 12 siblings and grew up in Lorimor where she attended school. She was a member of the Lorimor Christian Church.

In 1926, Ruth was married to Elza Waugh in Winterset, Iowa. They were married 68 years and raised two sons — Carl, currently of Adel, Iowa, and Claire of Earlham, Iowa. Ruth and Elza spent 46 years farming in Madison County until they retired to Winterset in 1972. The last 27 years of farming was in the Earlham-Pitzer community. Ruth liked to work and continued after their move to Winterset. She was a homemaker and worked at several of the retail stores as well as in the food service at Madison County Memorial Hospital, all of which were in Winterset. Ruth was a good mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; parents; six brothers; five sisters; and a dear Uncle Amel and Aunt Mima (McCauley) Frey, a practical nurse who cared for her as a child; and a daughter-in-law, Ruby (Mobley) Waugh; as well as many other in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Ruth is survived by her two sons, Claire (Jean) Waugh of Earlham and Carl Waugh of Adel; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation Activities Fund.
