CARROLL LOY, Lorimor

Carroll Loy, age 79, of Lorimor, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in Creston.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare, where the family will gather to receive friends from Noon to 1 p.m. prior to services. Memorials may be directed to the Carroll Loy Memorial.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara JoAnn Loy of Lorimor; two daughters, Cari Lynn Loy of North Carolina and Stephanie Jo Johnson of Des Moines; a son, Douglas Michael Loy of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Rachel Nicole, Chelsey Jo and Jon Michael Johnson; and a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Floyd Hall of Washington State.

CARROLL LOY, LORIMOR

Carroll Neil Loy, 79, of Lorimor died June 8, 2010, in Creston.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, where the family will gather to receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to services. Memorials may be directed to the Carroll Loy Memorial.

Carroll Loy was born Aug. 11, 1930, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines to Orville and Muriel (Chipmon) Loy and was a 1948 graduate of Lorimor High School. In 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years in El Paso, Texas. Following his discharge, Carroll returned home to take over the family farm after his father became ill. His marriage to Barbara JoAnn Friday took place Oct. 4, 1953. Carroll retired from farming in 1992. Following retirement he worked part time as a meter reader for R.E.A. Electric Company and then as a carrier for the Afton and Creston First National Bank, where he was employed for 15 years. Carroll was a member of the Lorimor Methodist Church and American Legion Post 96.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Lorimor; two daughters, Cari Lynn Loy of North Carolina and Stephanie Jo Johnson of Des Moines; one son, Douglas Michael Loy of Des Moines; a sister, Gloria Hall of Washington State; and three grandchildren.

In Loving Memory of Carroll N. Loy
August 11, 1930 - June 8, 2010

Carroll Neal Loy, the son of the late Orville and Muriel (Chipmon) Loy was born August 11, 1930 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Lorimor High School in 1948. In 1950, Carroll enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served four years in El Paso, TX. He was honorably discharged and returned home to take over the family farm after his father became ill. On October 4, 1953, he married his beloved wife of over 55 years, Barbara JoAnn Friday. To this union were born three children, Cari Lynn, Stephanie Jo and Douglas Michael.

Carroll's passion was farming and he continued to do this until his retirement in 1992. Following retirement, he took a part-time job as a Meter Reader for R.E. A. Electric Company, after which he was offered a job to be a Carrier for the Afton and Creston First National Bank where he continued to work for 15 years.

He enjoyed reading, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the Lorimor Methodist Church and American Legion Post 96. He also liked to spend time with his three cousins, Mike, Richard and Bob Means and greatly enjoyed time with his grandchildren.

Carroll died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in Creston, Iowa.

Carroll is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara JoAnn Loy of Lorimor; two daughters, Cari Lynn Loy and husband, Stephen Frankevich of North Carolina and Stephanie Jo Johnson and husband, Jerrome of Des Moines; a son, Douglas Michael Loy of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Rachel Nicole, Chelsey Jo and Jon Michael Johnson; and a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Floyd Hall of Washington State.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
