Lura T. Milligan, 88 of Des Moines, Iowa, died Monday, June 14, at the Shores of Pleasant Hill.
A service of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 19, at 11 a.m. at Windsor United Methodist Church, at 63rd and University in Des Moines. Friends may call at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Burial at Glendale Cemetery will follow a luncheon at the church.Lura McVay was born in St. Charles, Iowa on December 8, 1921, to Mr. James Lester McVay and Nydia Sayre McVay. She was raised in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1939. She attended A.I.B., and during World War II she worked at the Ordnance Plant in Ankeny. She later worked for Solar Air Craft in Des Moines.
In 1947 she married James Michael Milligan. Together they had 3 children: The Reverend Kathleen Milligan of Dubuque, Iowa; Mike (Julie) of St. Louis Park Minnesota; and Rob (Wendy) of Gladstone, Missouri. They lived in the Twin Cities, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Park Rapids Minnesota, in addition to Des Moines.
Lura was active at Windsor United Methodist Church, and volunteered at Bidwell-Riverside Center. She was also active in the Widowed People of Central Iowa organization, serving as its' president in 2003 and 2004.
She is survived by her children, a step-daughter Diane (Travis) of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren: Kelly (Mark) Mayhew of Des Moines; Kevin Milligan of Minnetonka, MN; Heather Milligan of Gladstone, MO; Sean Milligan of Fort Carson CO; Courtney Byrne of Lincoln, NE; and Bill Lux of Omaha, NE: four great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
