Emily A. (Nevitt) Binning
March 18, 1943 - April 1, 2010

Emily A. (Nevitt) Binning, a daughter given by the Lord to Jay and Beulah (Varley) Nevitt, was born in Dexter, Iowa on March 18, 1943, and died in hr home, The Valley of Praise in Salmon, Idaho late Friday evening, April 1, 2010, following a period of declining strength and health. The span of her earthly life was 67 years and two weeks. In the days prior to her passing she had expressed to her family members and friends her desire to depart and be with the Lord. Emily died Easter weekend and is dancing in Heaven with Jesus. Today we rejoice in the knowledge that she has passed the barrier of time as we know it and is forever at home with the Savior she faithfully served for nearly 67 years.

Emily was born the eldest of eight siblings, and graduated from Earlham Community School in 1961. While growing up on the family farm she enjoyed being active in 4-H along with her love of playing basketball for the Earlham Cardinals.

The summer after she graduated from North West Missouri State in 1965 with a degree in elementary education, she met Gordon on the Blackfoot reservation. One year later, June 9, 1966, Emily was married to Gordon Binning with 16 American Indian children standing with them in the little church they helped to build. This was the beginning of a great adventure. Together, for more then 43 years, they experienced the changing scenes of life in the joyous and fruitful companionship which the Lord had entrusted to them.

Although Emily and Gordon have no children of their own, Jesus has given them many children from the 23 nations in which they have traveled while sharing His love. From their home in Salmon, Idaho they traveled on missionary journeys with Jesus. Emily enjoyed her home, flowers, her garden, painting, writing books, and the children that are near and far. Above all, Emily loved Jesus.

Surviving Emily is her husband Gordon Binning of Salmon, Idaho; mother Beulah (Varley) Nevitt of Earlham (Dexter), Iowa; her loving siblings, Mary (Bruce) Koboldt of Earlham, Iowa; Jayne (Larry Smith of Perry, Iowa; Tom (Linda) Nevitt of Perry, Iowa; Bob (Barb) Nevitt of Perry, Iowa; Jim (Sherrie) Nevitt of Menlo, Iowa; Pat (Dick) Kenworthy of Earlham, Iowa, and Carol (Dan) Nordeen of Lancing, Mich; many nieces, nephews, and loved friends.

Preceding her in death is her father, Jay Nevitt.

A “Garden Party” memorial service will be held honoring the life of Emily Binning on June 13, 2010 from 1 - 3 p.m. at the home of Bruce and Mary Koboldt, Earlham, Iowa.
