Hulda J. Johnson was born in Ohio county, Indiana, Feb. 20, 1843, and died Nov. 23, 1910, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Thomas, where she had made her home for the last six years.
She with her parents came to Iowa and settled in Madison county in 1856. She was married to Thomas Whitworth Dec. 19, 1867. To this union were born five children, three girls and two boys. Two of these, Ada and Jimmie, with the father having preceeded her to the better land. Those living are Charles, who lives in Canada, Mrs. Carrie Givan, of near Pitzer and Mrs. Eva Thomas, who lives near Macksburg. Thus these three with two brothers are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother and sister.
She united with the M. E. church and was baptized when yet a girl and has been a member of the Macksburg M. E. church for a number of years, and has lived a devoted Christian life until the time of her death.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Spooner, of Macksburg, at the home Friday, Nov. 25th, and the remains were laid to rest in the Macksburg cemetery by the side of her husband, to await the last summons.
