SUSAN CRAWFORD DIED ON THURSDAY

Death Occurs at 80 Years; Had Been Resident Here Most of Life

Mrs. Susan E. Crawford, a resident of Madison county for most of her long life, died last Thursday, Dec. 11, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Floyd Gray of near Winterset. She was 80 years of age, and had suffered a stroke a few days prior to her death.

Mrs. Crawford was the former Susan Estella Benge, daughter of Joshua and Martha Benge, and was born at Pleasantville Nov. 28, 1867. She came to Madison county as a young girl, and spent the remainder of her life here.

She was married July 26, 1885, to Granville Compton. They were the parents of three sons and a daughter. All of the boys preceded the mother in death. Her second marriage occurred March 23, 1905, to John L. Crawford. He died in 1943.

She was a member of the Baptist church for many years, and also was affiliated with the women’s auxiliary to Green-Rogers post of the American Legion.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Gray, she leaves a step-daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Crawford of Needles, Calif., one granddaughter; two great granddaughters; a sister, Mrs. Sadie Baker of Kansas City, Mo., and a brother, Elton Benge of Los Angeles, Calif.

Funeral services were held Saturday from Anderson’s home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. L. F. Davis of Winterset. Burial was made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery near here.
