Page 1E. L. POFFINBARGER DIES IN DES MOINES
Death Occurred on Sept. 15 at Broadlawns Hospital in That City
Earnest Lee Poffinbarger, former Madison county resident, died Monday, Sept. 15, at Broadlawns General hospital in Des Moines. He was 66 years of age.
Most of Mr. Poffinbarger’s early life was spent in this county. He was the son of Smith and Emmaline McKinzie Poffinbarger, and was born March 7, 1881, near Thayer in Union county. His home was in this county until 1924, when he moved to Des Moines.
He was married Aug. 9, 1905, to Sadie Edith Gowin of Winterset. They were the parents of three sons and three daughters, one daughter dying in infancy.
Surviving are his wife; the three sons, John Everett and Hugh D. Poffinbarger, both of Des Moines, and Paul W. Poffinbarger of Stoughton, Wisc.; two daughters, Mrs. Vivian I. Eldred and Mrs. Irma L. Taylor, both of Leavenworth, Kan.; a brother George W. Poffinbarger of Earlham; a foster sister, Mrs. Georgia Johnson of Adel; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held last Wednesday from Lilly’s Funeral home in Des Moines. Burial was made in the McDonald cemetery in this county.

Funeral services for Earnest Lee Poffinbarger, 66, of 314 School St., will be at 10 a. m. Wednesday at Lilly's funeral home. Burial will be in McDonald cemetery at Winterset.
Poffinbarger died Monday in Broadlawns General hospital from a strangulated hernia. He had been ill one day. A construction worker, Poffinbarger was born in Union county. He came to Des Moines 23 years ago.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Sadie Poffinbarger; five children, John E. and Hugh Poffinbarger, both of Des Moines; Paul W. Poffinbarger, Stockton, Wis.; Mrs. Vivian Eldred and Mrs. Erma Taylor, both of Leavenworth, Kan., and seven grandchildren.
