Lewis Otto Klein, son of Jacob and Catherine Klein, was born near Caldonia, Minnesota, April 12, 1861. His boyhood was spent near his birth place, later he spent a year in Dakota.
As a young man he worked in La Crosse, Wisconsin, first in a store and then in electrical work. He came to Winterset in 1889 to help install the first light plant.
He was married to Lydia Harrell January 1, 1890. Later they moved to Muscatine where there one son, Fred, was born. They also had one child who died in infancy.
Mr. Klein soon returned to manage the light plant he had helped to build. He remained in charge of the light system for many years. After retiring from the plant he became interested in other electrical work and and installed a great many lighting systems in farm homes all over the county.
He had been a member of the Presbyterian church of Winterset for many years. He became a member ot the Commo Masonic lodge at Hoka, Minnesota when a young man and he later became a member of the K. P. lodge in Winterset and also a member of the A.O.U.W.
He was a tireless worker giving the best years of his life to public service. He had been in failing health for many months and passed away on Nov. 15th, aged 66 years, 5 months and 3 days.
He leaves besides his wife and son Fred, three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Aldridge, Roanoke, Virginia, Misses Addie and Allie Klein of La Crosse, Wisconsin and one brother, J. S. Klein of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and many friends.
The funeral service was held in the Tidrick funeral home Thursday afternoon, Thursday, November 17th, conducted by Rev. Paul Fowler and the interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
