Joseph Edward Hartman was born at Winterset, Iowa, Sept 22 1881 and died with diabetes Dec. 6, 1918. He was reared to manhood at Winterset and attended the Winterset schools. He learned the printing trade on the Winterset News, thence going to Omaha, where he was shipping clear for the American Radiator Co. until his health failed him; when he came to Creston to make his home with his brothers.
He joined the Baptist church when but a boy of 14 years. His mother and one sister preceded him in death several years ago. He leaves to mourn his loss an aged father, William Hartman, six brothers and one sister, James and George, near Afton; John, Win and Frank O. Creston; Walter of Sidney and Mrs. Walter Gray of Winterset and a host of other relatives and friends. Burial was made at Spaulding.
