Death of Mrs. Sallie Hoeness

Mrs. Sallie Hoeness, who has been in poor health for many months died on Friday, December 23, at her home on south Fourth Avenue at the age of 71 years. Mrs. Hoeness was born in Germany, December 4th, 1856, and she spent her girlhood in her native country. Accompanied by her husband and an infant daughter, they came to America, settling on a farm near Bloomington, Illinois, where soon the father died.

In July, 1888, she was married to Charles L. Hoeness, and to this union were born two children, who survive her, Mrs. Helen Williams, who resides on the old home farm in Jackson township, and Mrs. Katherine Corlett, of Des Moines.

Mr. Hoeness died in 1923. The deceased is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bird Williams, of Estherville, and a step-son S. G. Hoeness of Jackson township.

Mrs. Hoeness joined the Lutheran church while she lived in Germany and when she came to the United States took up her membership in the Methodist church. However, when she moved to the Pitzer neighborhood she affiliated with the United Presbyterian church.

Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the local United Presbyterian church, conducted the funeral services, Monday, December 26, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
