Death of Charles L. Hoeness

Charles Ludwig Hoeness, a prominent farmer of Jackson township, died about nine o’clock this morning at his home, a mile and a quarter east of Pitzer, at the age of nearly 75 years. Mr. Hoeness, who took sick about three weeks ago with stomach and heart trouble, has been critically ill for the last two weeks.

Mr. Hoeness had a large acquaintance of friends over the county, and was one of the most highly respected citizens. He came to this county in 1894 and settle on the home place, a mile east of Pitzer, where he resided until 1906, when he moved to the farm on which he died.

He was born in Wurtemburg, Germany, Nov. 18, 1848 where he received his education. In 1881 he came to America and bought land in McLean county, Illinois, where he made his home until 1894, the time he came to this county in 1877 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Schlegel, who died ten years later, leaving a son, Samuel O.

On July 18, 1888 Mr. Hoeness was married to Miss Ursula Messner, who now survives him.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Samuel and two daughters, Mrs. John Williams of Estherville and Miss Kathryn, who resides in Des Moines.

No definite arrangements have been made for the funeral services, but it is thought that they will be held on Saturday.
