Margaret May Mitchell was born in Des Moines, Dec. 28, 1871. She departed this life at her home near Patterson, Iowa, on Sunday, Jan. 25th, 1914, aged 42 years and 26 days.
Nearly all her life was spent near Patterson. Her mother died when she was but three years of age. The father left her at the age of twelve. Left alone without the loving care of parents, she found her Savior, when only seventeen years of age, and remained steadfast in the Christian's faith and hope to the end.
She was married in 1888 to Henry Stiles. To them was born one daughter, Nellie, who died March 1, 1907. On Oct 6, 1894, she was married to John W. Smith. Four daughters and one son blessed this union, the son dying in infancy. For the past three years, her health has been failing, and she endured great suffering, but bore up through all with christian fortitude until death released her spirit.
