Harold, son of Cassius and Ruby Small, was born in Patterson, Aug. 5, 1894. He entered the great beyond from his home in Patterson, Jan. 17, 1914, at the youthful age of 19 years, 5 months, 12 days.
On Sept. 11, 1911, he was married to Miss Dulcie Eunice Folwell. Two children, a son and daughter, were born to this union.
Almost his entire life was spent in this community. Mr. Small's health has been poor for many years, but possessing great courage, he bravely battled against odds, only to fall at last, beneath the solid phalanx of disease and death. To quote one who has known the deceased all through his life; “Harold was well liked by everybody” Very few can expect such a eulogium at death. Brother Rarick received Mr. Small into the M.E. Church, Sister Small, two children, a step-father, half sister, step brother and other relatives with a large circle of friends are saddened by this great loss.
The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Fred Warner, was held on Monday at two p.m. In the Patterson M. E. church. The remains were laid to rest in the Montpelier cemetery.
Coordinator's note: Transcribed as published, name inscribed on gravestone is Herald Small. Several other documents support the unusual spelling including his probate record.
