Death of Mrs. C. C. Shaffer

Mrs. Clyde C. Shaffer, who was stricken with paralysis a week ago last Monday, died early Friday morning at her home in Douglas township at the age of 39 years. Mrs. Shaffer has been in poor health for some time, but it was not until last week that she became critically ill, having the stroke, after which she never regained consciousness.

Mrs. Shaffer was the daughter of J. W. Wray and she was born in Dallas county, near Perry. In 1910 she was married to Mr. Shaffer and they have lived in Douglas township since that time, with the exception of four years between 1915 and 1919, when they lived in Minnesota.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Hazel and Dorothy, her father and a sister in law, all of this county.

Funeral services were held and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Clyde C. Shaffer

Edith Alida Wray Shaffer was born in Dallas county, Iowa, near Perry, September 13, 1884, and died at her home in Madison county November 2, 1923, at the age of 39 years 1 month and 20 days.

She was united in marriage to Clyde C. Shaffer June 28th, 1910. To this union were born two little daughters, Hazel Margaret and Dorothy Elizabeth, who with her husband, aged father and one sister, J. W. Wray and Gladys, her sister-in-law, Mrs. Catherine Wray and daughter, Helen, all of Winterset, are left to cherish her memory.

Her life was one of pure unselfishness, and her greatest pleasure was in serving others.

In the fall of 1911 she with her husband united with the Early Chapel church.

In the spring of 1915 they moved to Minnesota where they spent four years. The remainder of her life was spent on the home place in Douglas township. She had been in poor health since having the flu, and was suddenly stricken with apoplexy Monday noon, never regaining consciousness passing away at 4:20 Friday morning of the same week.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 o’clock at the home. Burial in the Winterset cemetery.
