John McDole, one of the old residents of Madison county, died at his home in Twin Falls, Idaho last Wednesday. Mr. McDole was a member of Co. B 34th Iowa, moving to Winterset after the war, where he resided until seventeen years ago when he moved to Orient.
Mr. McDole had been here with the body of his daughter, who died in Des Moines, and on his journey home, became ill, dying of pneumonia when his home was reached.

John W. McDole Answers Last Roll Call, Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1914.
On Tuesday, January 6, 1914, John W. McDole, an aged and respected resident of this city, passed away after a short illness of pneumonia. Mr. McDole was born in Indiana, January 16, 1840, and moved to the state of Iowa in 1849, where he lived for many years.
In 1862 at the age of 22 years he enlisted in the Union army and served for three years, or until the close of the war. He was a prisoner of war for 10 months in Tyler, Texas.
He returned to his home in Iowa after the war and was united in marriage to Mrs. McDole in 1865. The same year he became a member of the Christian church, being baptized in the Des Moines river.
He is survived by his widow and several brothers and sisters. There were two children the result of the union, the son dying when an infant and the daughter, Mrs. William Bevercombe passing away about two months ago in Des Moines, Iowa.
The funeral services were held from the First Christian church of which he was member, Wednesday afternoon, The Rev. Walter E. Harman, pastor of the church, officiating. Mr. McDole was a member of Dan McCook Post Grand Army of the Republic and the local lodge of Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Both orders turning out in a body to pay their last respect to their comrade and brother. Thursday morning the remains were shipped to Orient, Iowa, accompanied by the sorrowing widow, and William Bevercombe, where the interment will take place in the family plot at the Hill of Zion church.
