Obituary

Estella Roe Owen Docksteader was born in Scott county, Iowa, on the 19th day of September, 1861, and died on the 1st day of April, 1909, aged 47 years, 6 months and 12 days. Her father died when she was but four years old, and early in life she, with her mother, removed to Calhoun county, Iowa. She was married to John A. Docksteader at Lake City, Ia., on the 12th day of September, 1883.

To this union were born eight children, six girls and two boys as follows: Bertha, Cecelia, Maude, Bessie, Ervin, Jennings, Lois and Katherine. These eight children together with her husband, two brothers and one sister are left to mourn the loss of their dearest friend.

During the winter of 1888 she was converted to the Christian Faith and she, with her husband, united with the Presbyterian church at Rockwell City, Ia. In 1893 the family removed to Peru, Madison county, Iowa, and she and her husband united by letter with the M.E. church of that place, and later in 1899 they removed to Winterset where they united by letter with the M.E. church and continued members thereof until the time of her death.

She was a devoted wife and mother and her most earnest desire, aside from serving her family, was to make the world a little better by her having lived in it. She died as she lived, believing and trusting in her Savior and although not able to speak at the last she tried to make the family understand that she wanted them to meet her in Heaven.

The largely attended funeral service was held at the home in Winterset Sunday afternoon, Rev. S. S. Smith officiating in the absence of her pastor. Relatives present from a distance were Mrs. Bessie Dutton Murry, of New York City, and J. W. Docksteader, of St. Louis. There were many beautiful floral offerings from sympathizing friends. The interment was in the cemetery at Winterset. Thus has passed away a noble woman, a devoted and loving wife and mother, a true Christian woman and esteemed friend.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were: F. H. Owen, brother of Mrs. Docksteader, and his wife, of Rockwell City, Ia., J. W. Docksteader of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Bessie Dutton Murry, of New York City, N.Y., and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Gardner, of Des Moines.
