Thursday, November 3, 1892Stewart T. Hiatt departed this life at Welda, on Saturday morning, Oct 29, 1892, after a lingerling illness of several weeks. He was born in Wayne County, Ind., Feb 8, 1840, and at 12 years of age, removed with his parents to Madison County, Iowa.
There they remained until 1858, when they came to Anderson County, Kansas, where he has since resided. Early in 1861, he with other, was called out, and served in a company of militia along the Missouri border at intervals during that summer. On the 6th day of October, 1861, he volunteered in Co. E. of the 2d Kansas Infantry, and served in that capacity until about March, 1862, when the regiment was reorganized and became the 2d Kansas Cavalry, and he was assigned to Co. A of that regiment, and served three years, being mustered out on April 27, 1865.
Some time in 1872 he united with the Christian church, in which he apparently lived a consistent life.
