MARY THORNTON

Mary Elizabeth Bowers was born in Muskingum, Ohio, April 14, 1866. While still a young girl, she moved with her family to a farm near Earlham. Later she set up a dress making shop in Earlham and also studied art and gave painting lessons.

On June 13, 1891, she was united in marriage to James E. Thornton. To this union four children were born. Mrs. Thornton was convered early in life, and lived a beautiful, consistent Christian life down through the years. She attended church regularly until within a month of her death.

On July 18, 1961, at the age of 95 years and three months she went to occupy the palace over there. She was preceded in death by her husband five years ago, and one son Merle who died at the age of three and a half years.

She leaves to mourn her passing, one daughter, Mrs. Earl Nellis of Woodward; two sons, Rev. C. W. Thornton of Kankakee, Ill. and Rev. N. O. Thornton of Viroque, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Rev. J. O. Thornton of Mattoon, Wisconsin, Mrs. Bill Packard of Janesville, Wisc., Rev. Devere Thornton of Boscobel, Wisc., Mrs. Harold Wilson of Waukesha, Wisc., Mr. Darrell Thornton of Janesville, Wisc., and Miss Marylon Thornton of Kankakee, Ill.; three great grandsons and a host of friends.
