BOB HARRELL, Creston

Robert LeRoy Harrell, 84, of Creston and formerly of the Thayer area, died March 17, 2010, at the Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton with Pastor Dwayne Henrichs officiating. Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery, Afton. Memorials may be directed to the St. Malachy Foundation or the Creston Nursing and Rehab staff in appreciation of their wonderful care of Bob and our family.

Bob Harrell was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Madison County to Cliff and Gertrude (DeBok) Harrell and received his education in Madison County area schools. His marriage to Ruth Louise Reed took place March 6, 1949, in West Des Moines. They resided in rural Madison County until 1959, when they moved to the farm he and Ruth purchased, located north of Thayer. Bob was a lifelong farmer and also worked at Purolator in Creston for 13 years. He retired from farming in 1988 and in 2007, he and Ruth moved to Creston. Bob served on the Jones Township Board of Trustees for several years.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert and Junior Harrell.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Creston; two daughters, Karen Struble and Jane McCann, both of Creston; one son, Rick Harrell of Afton; four sisters, Alma Duff of Redding, Calif., Margaret Guthrie of Norwalk, and Zelma Libby and Jackie Trevillyan, both of Winterset; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
