John Charles Howell

On Friday evening, February 23d, at his home, John Charles Howell, after a few days of sickness, passed peacefully away. Mr. Howell was born June 2, 1864 at Astoria, Ill.

The next year his father came to Madison county, and here Mr. Howell grew to manhood.

When just a young man he united with the Methodist church and since then he lived a good, conscience life.

In the year 1887, Mr. Howell and a brother went to Colorado and with them the good wishes of their many friends. The following year he returned and was united in marriage to Miss Alice Love on December 3, 1888. Shortly after their marriage they went to Colorado, where they resided for seven years. While there, their two daughters, Gladys and Grace were born.

From Colorado they returned to Madison county and there a son was born to them, who died in infancy. Ten years ago they and their daughters moved to Indianola and have lived there since. While in Indianola in his business and social life, Mr. Howell made friends, who with his wife and daughters mourn his loss. He also leaves two sisters and five brothers.

The funeral services were held Monday morning at 10:30, in the Methodist church at Patterson and the body was laid to rest in Montpelier cemetery.
