Mrs. Eliza Bowlsby - Compton
Eliza Jane Bowlsby was born in Darke county, Ohio, Aug. 30, 1842, dying in Edmond, Okla. Dec. 16, 1916, aged 73 years.
In 1853 the family moved from Ohio and located in Winterset, where the subject of this sketch grew to womanhood.
She was married Dec. 24, 1864 to James R. Compton, a young soldier and together they lived until her death, a period of 52 years.
The family were pioneers of Oklahoma, settling near Edmond in 1889. Her failing health caused many moves on the part of relatives.
Besides her husband, seven children survive their mother, Elmer and Charles of Parker, Arizona, William, Claud and Alta May of Los Angeles, James of Oakland, California and Myrtle of Humansville, Mo.
The daughter living in Los Angeles, who was a practicing physician, was taken ill the same day as her mother and died January 13, 1917.
