RICHARD J. McLAUGHLIN, Des Moines, Iowa

Richard J. McLaughlin, 82, long-time resident of Des Moines and formerly of Winterset, died peacefully Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Granger Nursing and Rehabilitation where he resided the past three years.

Survived by his wife, Eleanor of Des Moines; a son Steven (wife, Aysel) of Norfolk, VA; three grandchildren, Peter, Brianna, and Gregory; and five siblings, including Patricia Corkrean of Winterset. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m., Monday at the St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Catholic Church in Cumming with Father Chris Hartshorn celebrating. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Church.

RICHARD McLAUGHLIN, Granger

Richard Joseph McLaughlin, 82, died March 4, 2010, at the Granger Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he resided.

A Funeral Mass was held Monday, March 8, at St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Catholic Church in rural Cumming with Father Chris Hartshorn celebrating. Burial was at the parish cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Church. Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset.

Richard McLaughlin was born Jan. 18, 1928, in Des Moines to John and Alice (McCusker) McLaughlin. He attended school in Winterset, graduating with the class of 1946. He was united in marriage to Eleanor Carroll. They made their home in Des Moines, where Richard worked as a driver in the construction industry until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John McLaughlin.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Des Moines; a son, Steven McLaughlin of Norfolk, Va.; four sisters, Patricia Corkrean of Winterset, Helen Morehouse of Lincoln, Neb., Celine Waring of Omaha, Neb., and Jane Weist of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Michael McLaughlin of Omaha, Neb.; and three grandchildren.
