Page 7, Column 2Obituary of Mrs. Aminda Brown
Aminda Cassady was born at Canton, Ohio, February 1, 1840 and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Catherine Wiley in Des Moines on February 16th, aged 69 years and 15 days. She was the daughter of James and Hannah Cassady and with her parents came to town in 1848 settling near the present site of Clanton.
In 1856 she was married to Henry Shaffer, who at the call of his country enlisted in 1862 and lost his life at the skirmish of Arkansas Post, leaving his wife with three small children, the youngest only six weeks old.
In 1866 she was married to J. R. Brown, who was also a soldier and to them were born four children. He died at Truro March 19, 1902.
Sister Brown was a member of the M. E. Church since her early girlhood and by her life made known to all her faith in Christ.
She leaves behind a host of sorrowing friends, five children to mourn the loss of a loving, kind mother.
He children are as follows: Ed Shaffer, Sparland, Ill. Catherine Wiley, Des Moines, Ia., Cora Lockridge, Ilo, Idaho, Nina Brown, deceased, Homer Brown, Truro, Ia., J. B. Brown of Hot Springs, Ark.
The funeral was held at the M. E. church in Truro, Iowa, of which she was a member. Her body was laid to rest in the Young cemetery.
