GEORGE R. BENNETT, Alta Loma, CA

George R. Bennett of Alta Loma, CA., 77, passed away on February 28. He was born September 12, 1932, in Decatur, Iowa, to Harry Ward and Helen Bennett, the oldest son and third of 13 siblings. He was raised in Winterset, Iowa, graduating from Winterset High School.

In 1953 he married his wife of 56 years, Phyllis and had three children: Michael E. (Sharon) of LaVerne, CA., Jeffrey K. (Lisa) of Norco, CA and Cheryl (Dan) Pearson of Alta Loma, CA. He has five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He has four sisters; Connie Storms of Ankeny,IA, Leona (Charles) Henry of Osceola, IA, Phyllis Carter of Des Moines, and Beverly (Leo) Barry of Urbandale, and three brothers; Dale (Barbara) of Mesa, Az., Raymond of Lenox, IA., and Kenny (Vicky) of Des Moines, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Helen, sisters Virginia Joann Bennett and Joy Bricker, his brothers Max, Vernon and Richard.

George and Phyllis lived in Alta Loma, CA. for the past 24 years. He loved his grandchildren and liked to take them places. He also loved his dog "Bubba" and took her everywhere. He was a Marine Sergeant in Korea. In 1954 he joined the Los Angeles Police Department, working various assignments as an officer, sergeant and lieutenant during his 25 years. He was also known for several antics, especially with a local fire station, and retired from the Newton Division as a Lieutenant. As a second career he worked for Crocker and Wells Fargo banks in Security Administration and as a Civilian Investigator with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. He and Phyllis were Quakes baseball fans, being named the fans of the Decade.

He had a generous heart and mischievous sense of humor. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Services will be March 11 with a Mass at St .Peter & St. Paul Catholic Church in Alta Loma at 11 a.m., followed by inurnment at Riverside National Cemetery, Area 2 at 1:15 p.m.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, or Hospice Care. Stone Funeral Home, Upland, Ca. is in charge of arrangements.
