Pg 1Death of Mrs. Henry Leveke
Mrs. Rosena Leveke was born in Ashland county, Ohio, March 6, 1851. When four years old her parents moved to Iowa, settling near Hebron, Adair county, as pioneers in that section of the country. At the age of eighteen she was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church and adorned the doctrine of her Savior in all things, living a consistent, consecrated life before the world.
On March 19, 1871, she was united in marriage to Henry Leveke and to this union were born ten children, one dying in infancy. The nine living children, all of whom were at her bedside during her last illness are: Mrs. C. H. Kamphoefner, of Webster City, Ia.; Mrs. J. H. Kloenschmidt, of St. Louis, Mo.; Fred Leveke, of Winterset; Henry Leveke, of Hebron; Mrs. S. M. Joliffe, of Logan, Ia.; Mrs. Elmer Menshall, of Logan, Ia.; Ernest Leveke of Philo, Ill.; Harry and Ruth Leveke, of Winterset. Besides the husband and children she is survived by an aged mother, four brothers, three sisters and three grandchildren.
Six years ago, Mrs. Leveke being in poor health, the family left their farm on the county line and moved into Winterset. Her last illness was of a little more than two weeks duration. When informed by her physician that she could not get well, she rejoiced in the prospect of entering into her eternal rest. She chose for the text at her funeral the triumphant cry of the Apostle Paul. During the last hours she repeated often the words of her favorite hymn, “Jesus, Lover of My Soul.” She retained consciousness to the end and her last words were, “It is getting brighter, brighter!”
Mrs. Leveke passed away on Nov. 19, 1908 aged 57 years, 8 months and 13 days. She was a loving wife and mother and a good neighbor. Her great object in life was to win her children for the kingdom of her Christ. His servant always found a welcome in her house. She always had a lively interest in the missionary cause and supported it with considerable liberality. The Master’s commendation will apply to her life, “She hath done what she could.”
Her funeral was preached at the M.E. church in Winterset and she was laid to rest in the Rock City cemetery on Nov. 21st.
