Page 1Death of Eugene Storrs
By the death of Mr. Storrs, of Union township, Madison county loses another of its old settlers. Mr. Storrs while at the home of a neighbor last Friday afternoon, in apparently good health, suddenly fell to the ground and expired. Mr. Storrs was one of our most industrious farmers, a man well known and highly respected. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family.
Eugene O. Storrs was born in Ripley township, Huron county, Ohio, on the 16th day of November 1844 and died November 6, 1908, aged 63 years, 11 months and 20 days.
He moved with his parents to Illinois and then to Iowa where he grew to manhood, and enlisted in the Union Army in the 1st Nebraska Regiment Co. F on June 16, 1861. He living up to this time at Clarinda, Page county, Ia. He served faithfully and loyally in the defense of the flag he loved so well, and was honorably discharged at the expiration of service, November 10, 1864.
On November 9, 1874 he united in marriage with Margaret C. Janeway, of Newton, Jasper county, Ia., and lived in Winterset until 1877, when they moved to the farm north of this city where they have resided ever since. To this union were born four sons and two daughters. There are also six grandchildren. Leroy Storrs, of Winterset, Mrs. Blanche Stanfield, of Stettler, Alberta Canada, Miss Io., and the three younger sons, Colomer, Halden and Beattie, all of whom with their mother and an only remaining sister, Mrs. Darius Wagor, of Colorado Springs, Colo., still survive and mourn the loss of a loving father, a devoted husband and affectionate brother.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the Christian church in this city conducted by Rev. Bennett. Interment was made in the Rock City cemetery.
