St. Charles

James M. Fulton, one of the early settlers in this community and one of the most highly respected citizens passed away on the 14th.

Funeral services were held last Thursday and burial in the St. Charles cemetery.

James M. Fulton -

James M. Fulton was born in Belmont county, Ohio on Dec. 31, 1852, died at this home near St. Charles, Iowa, April 14, 1914.

He came to this county when a small boy and settled near Winterset, later moving to a farm near Truro, where he grew to manhood.

He was married to Rachel E. Clanton on Dec. 17, 1874. To this union three children were born, two sons, Hugh, of California, Fred, of Warren county and one daughter, Mrs. Cash Downs, who lives south of Hanley. He united with the Christian church in St. Charles in 1878.

Mrs. Rachel Clanton died March 2, 1882. He was again married to Martha B. McAndless on Feb. 21, 1884. To this union eight children were born, five sons and three daughters, four sons dying in infancy. He leaves a wife, three sons, four daughters and two brothers, Will Fulton, of Woodbury county and Tom of Idaho.

Funeral services were held in the Christian church last Thursday, conducted by Rev. Olmstead of Des Moines and the remains were laid to rest in the St. Charles Cemetery.
