Obituary

Charles P. Weeks was born Feb. 3, 1831 in Spencer county, Kentucky and departed this life Sept. 12, 1908 at his old home in Kasson, Madison county, Iowa, aged 77 years 7 months and 9 days. His parents moved to Coles county, Ill., in October 1833, where he spent about 29 years of his life. In 1852 he united with the Christian church at Peoria, Ill., and gave the remainder of his 56 years of life to his Savior whom he dearly loved.

In the year 1861 he was married to Mary Elizabeth Reynolds, and to this union two sons, J. W. and C. G. Weeks, were born. June 7, 1864, death robbed his home of a mother. In March 1867 he was again married to Martha A. Goar, and to them eight children were born, two of which died in childhood. Those living are J. A., A. H, L. S. and W. J. Weeks and two daughters, Mrs. Eda Vaughn and Mrs. Eva Stiel. On April 23, 1884 the mother of these children left them for the better world. On Nov. 27, 1889 he was again married to Elizabeth E. Steel who is left to fight life’s battles alone.

Mr. Weeks was a soldier in the civil war, having served in Co. C 13th Iowa. He was a very quiet man, never seeking public office, but pursuing the duties of the farm as his life calling. He was well known in this county as a loyal Christian man. About two years ago he received a stroke of paralysis and on April 6, 1908 it affected his left side.

The funeral services were held at the Kasson church Sept. 15th at 10 o’clock, conducted by Elder S. D. Harland, after which the body was laid to rest in the Hamlin cemetery.

Note: Burial was in the Hamblin cemetery.
