MAXINE GHEER, OSCEOLA

Maxine Gheer, 70, of Osceola died Feb. 19, 2010, at her home.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Feb. 24) at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A committal service will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery in Davenport, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa Rodeo Cowboy Association or the United Rodeo Association. Online condolences may be made at www.ochiltree.com .

Maxine Gheer was born Dec. 25, 1939, in Crowder, Mo., to Dewell and Elta (Jones) Wise and was a 1957 graduate of Bettendorf High School. Her marriage to Ivyl G. Gheer took place May 24, 1958, in Pleasant Valley. Maxine worked for Northwestern Bell — beginning her career as an operator and retired in 1990 as an award-winning supervisor. She also was an accomplished graduate instructor for Dale Carnegie, teaching effective public speaking and human relations. Maxine also co-owned Rite-n-Gear Rodeo Company, which was founded in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rick Gheer; and a brother, Joe Wise.

She is survived by her husband, Ivyl; one son, Rusty Gheer of Centerville; a sister, Alice Dykes of Bettendorf; a brother, Ernie Wise of Diagonal; and seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Maxine Gheer, 70, of Osceola, died Friday, February 19, 2010 at her home.

A visitation with family receiving friends will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, February 23 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 24 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A committal service will be held at 4 p.m. at the Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport. Maxine is survived by her husband, Ivyl Gheer; a son, Rusty (Lynn) Gheer of Centerville; a daughter-in- law, Connie Gheer of Orient; a sister, Alice (Dewayne) Dykes of Bettendorf; a brother, Ernie (Sharon) Wise of Diagonal; seven grandchildren; two step- grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rick Gheer; and a brother, Joe Wise.
