Gene Vance Dies At Gary

Walter (Gene) Vance, member of a well known Winterset family, died Aug. 28 at Gary, Ind. Where he had made his home for more than 27 years. He was 57 years of age.

Mr. Vance was born in Winterset Dec. 25, 1914, a son of Harry and Elsie Young Vance. He graduated from Winterset High school with the class of 1932, and attended Tri-State College at Angola, Ind. After receiving his college degree, he entered the accounting department of U.S. Steel Corporation at Gary, and had been employed there the last 27 years.

He was married in 1941 to Eileen DeVolle of Gary, and continued to make his home in that community until his death.

Nearest surviving relatives are his wife, and a daughter, Pamela, both of Gary.

Funeral services were held Aug. 31 from the Geisen’s Funeral home in Gary, with burial in Calumet Park Cemetery there.
