KATHERINE BOWMAN, WINTERSET

Katherine Louise Bowman, 29, of Winterset died Jan. 14, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 18, at the Word of Life Family Church in rural Winterset. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery. Memorials to the family may be directed in her name — The Katherine Bowman Memorial. Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Katherine Bowman was born June 5, 1980, in Ogallala, Neb., to Samuel and Lois (Ralston) Yetter. She graduated from Earlham High School in 1998 and attended DMACC, where she studied photography. Her marriage to Jerod Bowman took place July 15, 2006, at the Crossroad Evangelical Free Church in Earlham. As a youth, Katherine had been involved in 4-H and Hidden Acres Christian Camp, where she also had been a counselor. She had been a waitress at West End Diner and worked at Breeding’s True Value Hardware in Winterset. Katherine also had been in charge of the 4-H program at the Madison County Iowa State Extension office. She was involved with mission work, traveling four times to Brazil as a missionary and was a member of the Word of Life Family Church in rural Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents, Russell and Olive Ralston and Winnie Yetter.

She is survived by her husband, Jerod, of Winterset; one son, Nathan, at home; two stepchildren, Mariah and Bryce Bowman of Winterset; her mother, Lois Yetter of Earlham; a brother, Ben Yetter of Earlham; and her grandfather, Herbert Yetter of Big Springs, Neb.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 6 p.m., Sunday, January 17, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 18, at the Word of Life Family Church. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials to the family may be made in her name (The Katherine Bowman Memorial).

Katherine was born June 5, 1980 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Samuel and Lois (Ralston) Yetter. She graduated from Earlham High School in 1998 and attended DMACC, where she studied photography. Her marriage to Jerod Bowman took place on July 15, 2006 at Crossroad Evangelical Free Church in Earlham and to this union a son, Nathan, was born.

AS a child, Katherine was involved in 4-H and each summer attended Hidden Acres Christian Camp, where she later volunteered as a counselor. After high school, Katherine was a waitress at the West End Diner, where customers and coworkers would often comment on her fun loving, friendly personality. She also worked for a time at Breeding’s True Value in Winterset and the Madison County Iowa State Extension Office where she was in charge of the 4-H program.

Katherine’s passion was photography and she devoted much of her time capturing the world through the lens of her camera. Katherine also loved the Lord and wanted to share His story with others. One of the ways she chose to share the Word of God was through mission work. She traveled four times to Brazil as a missionary, three times before she was married and once with Jerod after their marriage. Katherine was devoted to serving the Lord and caring for her family. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother and stepmother who will be deeply missed.

Katherine was a member of the Word of Life Family Church.
