LAVETA POTTER, WINTERSET

LaVeta Nathel Potter, 92, died Jan. 10, 2010, at Winterset Care Center South.

Following cremation, a memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 15, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Pastor Dale Short officiating. Burial was at Leon Cemetery.

LaVeta Potter was born Jan. 10, 1918, in Saline, Mo., to Harvey Robert and Marie Eva (Nivens) Butler and spent her childhood living on a farm in Saline. Her marriage to Fredrick “Wilber” Potter took place Dec. 19, 1938. LaVeta sold Amway and Stanley Home Products, of which she was a unit manager. She also worked at Catherine’s Clothing Store. Following the death of Wilber, she moved to Seymour. LaVeta was baptized in the Calvary Baptist Church in Leon and was a member there for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Freddie Harve and an infant son; and one daughter, Janice Marie Lira.

She is survived by one daughter, LaVoy Buckingham of Winterset; a sister, Aleta Mullins of Belton, Mo.; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
