Pg 3Death of Charles S. Garretson
Charles Sumner Garretson was born in Winterset, Ia., April 5, 1865. Here his life in the main was lived. On April 29, 1904, he gave up the struggle for existence, being 39 years and 24 days of age. A life which ought to have been in its prime is thus ended. His sun went down while it was yet day. On Sept. 10, 1895, he was married to Nora Laverna Reed. To them three children were born. Helen Bernice, Gertrude Alice and Hubert Russell. These three children with a faithful wife and mother, are left to mourn and to face the world for themselves. Under the pastorate of Rev. Chesley Holmes, he united with the Baptist church, of Winterset in 1894. Mr. Garretson had been a sufferer for a number of years and for the past few months has been confined to the house. He was a “knight of the stick” and has worked in every office in the city. He was an upright young man and was beloved by all who knew him, as was demonstrated by the large circle of friends who attended him to his last resting place. The funeral occurred from the home Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. McDowell. The bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
